- Bust of an Emperor
- marble
- Italian, 19th century
Provenance
inventory of Lehmann Bernheimer, at Palais Bernheimer, Lenbachplatz, Munich
Condition
Overall the condition of the marble is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is veining to the marble, consistent with the material, notably a large vein running diagonally across the chest. There are a few small naturally occurring inclusions, notably to the forehead, and there is an orange-coloured stain to the cloak at the bottom. There are several dirt marks, notably to the proper left cheek, to the proper right shoulder, and to the drapery on the proper left side. There are several chips and abrasions, notably around the edges of the truncation and to the cloak at the proper left shoulder at the top. There is some plaster residue to the bottom, where the bust would have been attached to a socle.
