There is weathering to the surface throughout, consistent with placement outside. There is also dirt to the surface throughout. The bird's head is lost. There are several further losses, including: to the eagle's wings, to the man's proper left foot, and to his proper right big toe. Sections of the man's proper right leg and foot appear to have been reattached, with joints and some filling material visible at the top section of the foot, the ankle, and the knee; there are losses around the joint at the ankle. The section including the man's torso, proper left arm, part of his proper right leg, and the eagle is carved separately, and a joint is slightly visible, notably at the proper right leg, where there is some fill. The man's head is also carved separately. There are several nicks and scratches, notably to the headdress. There is some plaster fill to the proper right toe. There are a few splashes of white paint, in particular to the eagle's back.
There is veining to the limestone base consistent with the material. There are several chips and minor losses to the edges and corners, and there are a few dirt marks.
