Condition

Overall the condition of the capital is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is weathering to the surface, consistent with placement outdoors. The head of the bird at the top is lost, probably due to weathering. There are further losses, in particular around the top, to the edges of the scroll work, and to one of the handles of the vase. There are also a few chips and abrasions to the high points, including the foliate decoration. There is dirt throughout, including plant residue. There are two holes with losses to the top at the back. There are surface losses and slightly unstable sections of stone to both sides where the carving ends.
