Description

  • Relief with the coat of arms of the Cicinelli family of Naples surmounted by a dragon
  • inscribed: pax hinc domui
  • limestone
  • Italian, probably 19th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the relief is good, with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is dirt throughout, notably black encrusted dirt to various sections of the coat of arms. There is veining to the limestone, consistent with the material; a few of the veins are slightly open but stable. There are a few losses, including to the bottom left corner and minor losses to the carving, such as the foliates to the left of the dragon. There are further minor chips and abrasions throughout. The sides and reverse are roughly hewn. There is a metal mount at the top.
