Description

  • Three bundle columns

  • French, 16th/ 17th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the columns is good, with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. There is weathering throughout, consistent with placement outdoors. There is veining to the limestone throughout, consistent with the material, including slightly open veins. There are several losses, notably: to each of the cross-shaped bases at the edges and corners, to sections of the capitals of two columns; several corners at the top of the one column; another loss to one of the bases; and an area of surface loss to the shaft of a bundle 'column' of one of the columns. There are some breaks to the base of one of the columns and the foot of one of its bundle 'columns'; this area is unstable and possibly loose. There are chips and abrasions to the edges and corners throughout. There are a few small holes to the shafts of the columns. There is some yellowish staining towards the bottom of each column. There are a few circular stone inserts.
