Description
- Pair of pilaster columns
- limestone
- Italian, 18th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the columns is good, with dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. There is dirt throughout, including dark staining and greenish encrustations. One of the columns has been reattached at the waist above the base; there are some losses around this break, and the joint is open but appears to be stable. There are further losses to this column, including to the foliate scroll at the top, and there are a few losses to the corners at the top and bottom of both columns. There are also chips and abrasions to the edges throughout. A small section of the foliate decorations of one of the columns is carved separately; the joint is slightly open, and some filling material is visible. There is a string with a metal tag around the top of each column.
