‘Commissioned by His Excellency, the Auspicious, the most Glorious, the Most high, the Most noble, the Eminent Sultan Mas’ud Mirza Yamin al-Dawla Zill al-Sultan’

A number of examples from this set were sold in these rooms, 9 April 2014, lot 190, 8 October 2014, lot 123 and 22 April 2015, lot 194. The porcelain body and decoration is very much associated with the Qing dynasty in China, and this exclusive set, which must have been quite extensive, was commissioned for and dedicated to Mas’ud Mirza Zill al-Sultan of Persia. For a full bibliography of Zill al-Sultan, see M. Bamdad, Dictionary of National Biography of Iran, 1700-1900, vol. 4, Tehran, 1966, pp.78-100.
