  • ink on paper, with gold, leather binding
Chaghatai Turkish manuscript on varied colour paper, 6 leaves, 8 to 13 lines to the page, written in fine ta'liq script in black ink horizonatally and diagonally, corner pieces filled with scrolling split palmettes, margins ruled in colours and gold, later binding with embroidered exterior

In good overall condition, pages generally clean, a few minor stains, as viewed.

Mir 'Ali-shir Nava'i, also known as Nizam-al-Din 'Ali-Shir Herawi (1441-1501), generally known under his pen-name, Nava'i ('the melodic' or 'musical'), was an important politician, mystic, linguist, painter, and poet. Born and raised in the city of Herat, he is remembered in Uzbekistan's history as one of the founding fathers of Uzbek literature and a great contributor to Chaghatai works, significantly adding to the development of the Uzbek language.
