Description
- Leather with gilt-threading
composed of two leather boards and a flap, with red doublures with gilt knotted motifs, green exterior boards tooled with gilt medallions filled with interlacing foliate motifs, ropework border with subtle corner pieces and cintamani motifs, ensuite flap and sticker on upper front with name of original text, an inserted board within binding to maintain shape with various owners' notes

In good overall condition, occasional worm holes, spine repaired, as viewed.

'No 2653...Early 16th Century Turkish Binding...R.H. Pinder Wilson of Brit. Mus. saw this binding on 19 Jan, 1960 and said it was probably Persian of about 1700. (But query this opinion 21.10.69)...Bought from Luzac & Co. 21.12.59...Said to be from F.R. Martin Collection'
