Description

  • Ink and gold on paper
text: surah al-saba (XXXIV), part of verse 46 to verse 54 (last verse) and surah al-fatir (al-mala'ika) (XXXV), verse 1 to end of verse 10
Arabic manuscript on paper, 12 and 13 lines to the page, written in naskh script in black ink, the first and last in larger thuluth script outlined in gold, illuminated surah heading in white Kufic script against a gold ground decorated with flowers and latticework panels, with tear-drop motif extending into the margin, verses separated by segmented gold florets pointed in blue and red, 3 illuminated marginal devices, two marking tenth verses with the word 'ashr' at the centre

Condition

In reasonably good overall condition, some repair and re-inking to lower and upper bold lines, leaf trimmed, discolouration to upper left hand leaf edge, as viewed.
