on carved cabriole legs with acanthus decoration terminating in scrolled feet

Condition

Overall in good condition. One of the feet with a chip to the rear which is not visible when viewed from the front. There are signs of shrinkage along the lines of construction. Signs of old worm which appears to be no longer active. The upholstery is coming away from the frame in areas which could benefit from attention. With old marks and scratches throughout consistent with age and use.

Catalogue Note

This stool relates closely to a suite of furniture supplied to Peter Legh XIII for Lyme Park, Cheshire. The legs of the present lot are identical to those of the commissioned suite, see John Cornforth, 'Lyme Park, Cheshire-IV', Country Life, 26 December 1974.
