Description

  • 56cm., 22in. long, 48.5cm., 19in. high.
the central relief embossed depiction, possibly after a scene by Phillipe de Champaigne, engraved above "Hane Paternam / et quic quid bie conspicitur argenti / in usum / Ecclesiae Taprobanae / sacrari voluit / Georgii Tertii Britanniarum Regis / pia munificentia / A. S. MDCCCX / A. R. / L.”, each side embossed with panel depicting one of the Four Evangelists flanked by palmettes, twice applied with the Royal Arms and signs of the Pentecost, the reverse scratch engraved: 'Rundell Bridge et Rundell / Fecurunt 1811'

Condition

Hallmarks clear to reverse. The embossed scenes are crisp. The gilding with slight areas of corrosion and bubbling in places. One scroll from the flanking anthemion to the upper-right Evangelist panel is missing. One fastening bolt missing from reverse. Fine surface scratches. Would benefit from professional cleaning.
