Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Beautiful encrusted patina with glossy parts on edges.

Catalogue Note

Cette serrure-sculpture offre, dans la radicale stylisation des formes, un témoin des plus aboutis du style Bamana qui s'est épanoui dans la région de Sikasso. Elle se distingue par la rare intégration du vide dans l'architecture des volumes, faisant écho, de profil, à la découpe structurelle du coffre. Les représentations - notamment féminines - des serrures devaient, chez les Bamana, protéger les céréales des insectes et des voleurs. La profonde patine d'usage, partiellement croûteuse, brillante sur les lignes saillantes, témoigne de sa longue utilisation.
