Lost wax cast with remains of the plaster core in the interior. Some of the pins inserted during the casting process remain in place and two pinholes have been left unfilled; this appears to be intentional. Some verdigris and oxidation as well as some white deposits in the crevices that appear to be remains of the casting technique. One 5cm hairline fissure at the lower back, possibly an original casting flaw. Minor wear to the protruding elements and an overall build-up of surface dust, otherwise this work is in very good original condition.

Peu après son arrivée à Paris, Rosso tombe malade et passe le mois d'octobre 1889 à l'hôpital Lariboisiere. L'expérience inspira cette œuvre, sa première exécutée à Paris.
