"Au-delà de leur valeur esthétique, (ces livres) deviennent des œuvres d’art par le fait qu’ils soient uniques. Les livres sont un miroir de ce labyrinthe sinueux et intime qui se développe dans toute sa production artistique : toiles, sculptures, installations, photographies {. ;.] A partir des années 80 émerge le coté alchimique de l’œuvre de Kiefer, les livres deviennent matériels, constitués de photographies sur lesquelles l’artiste intervient graphiquement, en utilisant aussi des matériaux divers comme le sable, la terre et la peinture : les thèmes sont ceux chers à l’artiste qui les réutilise dans les livres sous forme de lecture visuelle : une narration par les images qui dans les dernières images a embrassé les thèmes de la nature et du cosmos et qui se développe à travers des nouveaux matériaux comme le plombs, irrégulier, lourd, mais avec le temps assume des nuances de couleurs diverses qui vont du gris au rouge, qui donnent a ces livres une beauté somptueuse, participant, complètement, au sens de l’œuvre. "
