Catalogue Note

Robert Havell Jr., the primary engraver of John James Audubon's Birds of America, emigrated to the United States in 1839, a year after finishing the publication's final thirty-five plates.  Although he became a minor Hudson River School painter, Havell continued to occasionally produce hand-colored aquatints and etchings of cityscapes such as the present, rare work.
