Condition

Condition Report from Simon Parkes Conservation, Inc. (9/30/2015): This work is generally in very good condition. The paint layer is heavy and has developed fairly notable cracks in the sky which are further exaggerated by a poor lining applied with wax. If this wax lining is reversed and replaced with a lining using Beva-371 as an adhesive, it will allow a great reduction in the visual impact of these cracks, by at least 50%. It may be that when the lining work is done, only a few, or none, of these cracks need to be retouched. Under ultraviolet light, there is hardly any retouching visible to the painting. The figures and small details are all very well preserved. Canvas is lined. SURFACE: in good condition; crackling throughout. UNDER UV: minor fill in the tree in the center of the foreground; two inch tear repair and inpainting to the upper right corner.
