Catalogue Note
A Janus-type figure of a female ancestor, most likely to be Bima, the errant wife of Purukuparli who brought death among the Tiwi. The work displays features characteristic of Djulabinyanna’s sculpture, in particular the hunched posture of the figure and the arms that are attached to the torso. The face possesses a mournful look appropriate to the occasion of a burial ceremony with which such sculptures are associated.
