Condition

Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand the chairs presents with a more red and greater saturation to the coloration throughout. The backrest of the chairs with a wonderful curvilinear decoration executed in burled wood that adds wonderful depth to the chairs. The chair frames appear to have a sensitively applied later finish. The wooden surfaces with minor surface scratches, minor edge abrasions and light surface dirt concentrated to the recessed portion of the design. The leather upholstery appears later and is executed in a manner and material consistent with the original design. The leather is soft and displays a deeply saturated hue. The leather with a few small and minor discolorations and a few very shallow surface scratches. The leather overall has a nice patina throughout. A wonderful deeply sculptural pair of chairs. The form is clearly informed by similar principles used by the architect in his realized architectural structures. A rare opportunity to acquire a work by Jensen–Klint on the auction market. ---

Catalogue Note

Peder-Vilhelm Jensen-Klint designed one of Copenhagen’s architectural treasures, Grundtvig Church, which remains today as a tribute to his unique Gothic-inspired aesthetic.  The chairs on offer possess an architectonic quality and reference similar arch construction from this soaring structure.  Jensen-Klint would pass away before the realization of the Church and the task of its completion fell to his son, Kaare Klint, who would become a famous architect and designer in his father footsteps.
