Description
- George Nakashima
- Set of Three "Conoid" Chairs
- with client's name to the underside
the additional chair signed and dated - American black walnut and hickory
together with a chair produced by Ru Amagasu, grandson of George Nakashima, 2007
Provenance
Acquired directly from the artist, circa 1971
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The chairs with scattered minor surface scratches and some minor edge abrasions consistent with age and gentle use. The chairs with minor evidence of fading from sun exposure, that shows evenly across the set. The lower portion of each of the chair legs with expected concentrated edge abrasions, minor surface discolorations and surface scratches consistent with use. One chair in this set was executed by Ru Amagasu, grandson of Nakashima, to match the existing three. There is minor difference in the wood graining and coloration, but the chair pairs very nicely with the earlier three. A very well-matched set of four chairs with beautifully nuanced figuring to boards selected for the seats.
