Condition
Overall very good original condition. The walnut elements of the table frame with surface scratches, edge abrasions and a few minute edge losses consistent with gentle use. The wood overall is slightly dry and shows evidence if minor sun fading. One leg with an area of very minor infill adjacent to a knot that appears original to the production. The brass elements of the frame and sabots with minor discolorations consistent with the aging process of the material and some minor surface scratches consistent with use. The glass top appears original with a few minor air bubbles and imperfections consistent with the original design. Two of the air bubbles are adjacent to the terminals of the table frame and likely the glass was cut and placed to minimize the impact of these inherent air bubbles. The edge of the glass top with a few scattered minor chips to the beveled edge, one edge chip measuring approximately 1 inch in length and ΒΌ in in depth appears to have been growned down. The top of the glass with shallow surface scratches and a few minor abrasions consistent with gentle use. This table is a very nice original condition example of Gio Ponti's design for a US market. The table form displays the sculptural details and lightness to the design characteristic of Ponti's works.
