Condition

The marble with the usual minute chips to edges, light scratches to surface consistent with age and use. One part of the base has two previous restorations one of which is now loose. Overall in fair condition with the usual tarnishing and dirt to gilt bronze mounts consistent with age and atmospheric conditions through the years. One bronze mount on the base is missing.

Susse Frères (1837-1987). The Susse dynasty started in Paris as early as 1726 with Jean and his son selling furniture.  Two generations later, they expanded the company under the branded name Susse Frères, specializing in casting and editions of bronze art from the mid-19th century onwards.
