Condition
Giltwood frames with rubbing to gilding. Velvet mats with some losses to pile. Bronze plaques with some surface dirt.

Catalogue Note
Jose Maria Oscar Rodolfo Bernardelli (1852-1931) was professor of sculpture, at the Imperial Academy, Rio do Janeiro. He executed numerous public commissions in Brazil. Sculptures by Bernardelli are in the collection of the Nation Museum of Fine Arts, Rio de Janeiro. The plaques depict the lead characters in two of the most famous 19th century Brazilian novels, Iracema and O Guarani (Peri) by Jose de Alencar (1829-1877), published in 1865.
