- terracotta, on a turquoise ceramic and ebonised turned wood socle
Condition
Overall the condition of the terracotta is good, with some wear and minor dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is a slip to the surface which may conceal some condition points. There are a few minor nicks and scratches, including to the cheeks and to the chest. There are a few small lacunae, consistent with the material, notably to the truncation at the back. There is a hairline fissure, as the result of the firing process, to the hair behind the proper right temple. There is particular dirt in the crevices of the hair. There is some minor dark spotting, including to the face and to the proper right shoulder.
The socle is in good condition, with some wear and minor dirt. There is some wear and a few small chips to the ceramic glaze at the edges. There is stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, notably two splits to the front of the socle. There are a few small losses to the paintwork on the socle.
