Overall the condition of the sculpture is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor wear to the gilding, including some tarnishing or staining, notably to the horse's haunches. There are a few specks of dirt, including to the woman's proper left leg and to the axe. The proper left stirrup is slightly loose. A few original metal screw heads are visible, notably to the front of the saddle. There are a few minor nicks, including to the woman's proper left leg. There is some stable hairline splitting to the ivory consistent with the material, in particular to the top of the head. The group rocks forward very slightly on the bronze base. The bronze base is slightly loose on the marble base. The marble base is in good condition, with several small chips and abrasions around the edges and corners.
