Catalogue Note
A presentation copy of the first edition, inscribed on the first free endpaper: "For Harry Ackerman / with good wishes / Raymond Chandler / La Jolla, Sept. 7, 1949." Ackerman was the long time executive at CBS who was responsible for creating the radio series based on Philip Marlowe that ran for two seasons in 1949—the year this book was inscribed—and 1950. Chandler and Ackerman also worked together in Los Angeles on a number of television projects based on Chandler's work.
