Catalogue Note
Deers Farm, close to the Essex village of Clavering, was a frequent haunt of Clausen's while he lived in Widdington between 1891 and 1905. It was the inspiration for a series of pictures continuing into the 1920s and 1930s. Early examples of Clausen's fascination with barn interiors include The Old Barn of 1897 (unlocated) and The Golden Barn of 1901 (Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool) whilst Interior of an Old Barn was painted in 1908 (Royal Academy of Arts, London)
