Catalogue Note

A good copy of a rare volume of photographs from the author's travels in China over a period of ten years in the early twentieth century. The places illustrated range from the bund and foreign concessions in Shanghai, on to Hangzhou and West Lake, Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuhu, Lushan, Wuhan, various other places on the Yangtze, including the Gorges, and areas of southern China. The six panoramas show West Lake (4-part), Mt. Lushan (5-part), Wuhan, view of Wuchang, Hankow and Hanyang (6-part), Changsha, capital of Hunan Province (5-part), Mt. Yolu near Changsha (2-part), and a bird's-eye view of Sasi (Shashi) on the Yangtze (2-part).
