Condition
Overall in very good condition. With some small and minute air bubble and particulate inclusions, and with a few small open air bubbles, all inherent in the making and not at all visually detracting. The vase interior with some applied threads of glass and some small scattered open air bubbles, all inherent in the making and not visible on the vase exterior. The top exterior rim with some light surface scratches and minor signs of surface wear. The vase interior is cased in white and fully iridized as part of the enhancement of the coloration of the exterior. With some light surface soiling on the lower interior. When seen in person the colors are slightly more saturated and deeper than seen in the catalogue illustration. An outstanding example which epitomizes the highest artistry of Tiffany glass, distinguished by its impressive scale, artistic composition, masterful carving and bold palette. The rare subject of autumnal leaves is vividly depicted here in a bold palette of striking green, red-orange and yellow. When viewed in the round, the fluid composition occupies the upper and lower register of the vase form, heightening the sense of visual interest and movement. The carving is superb, imparting the vase with a richly tactile surface. As evidenced by the engraved "A-coll" mark on the underbase, this vase was selected by Louis Comfort Tiffany for his personal private collection at Laurelton Hall. It was later sold in the historic 1946 auction of the contents of Laurelton Hall, when it was acquired by James Stewart, head gaffer at Tiffany Studios.
