Catalogue Note

Published on pages 42 and 43 of A Spaniard in the Works. While drawing the figure swinging on a rope with a huge club, Lennon smudged the illustration and created a hole in the sheet. The mistake is annotated in pencil, in an editorial hand, "CLEAN! please". The solution was to crop the top of the illustration for publication and the club was eliminated.
