Not relined. Painting formerly enlarged by the artist himself, thus signed twice. Black outlines of former edges still visible, most notably in the upper half's white. Scattered craquelure. Minot retouchings visible under uv-light along the lower edge and presumably to the centre-right of the basket. Good condition.

Alberto Giacometti ist durch die schlanken Bronzefiguren seines Spätwerkes weltweit bekannt, ebenso aber auch für seine einzigartigen Zeichnungen und Gemälde, die sich vom Frühwerk bis hin zur letzten Phase seines künstlerischen Schaffens beobachten lassen.

Während seiner frühen Jugendzeit setzte sich Alberto intensiv mit dem Schaffen seines Vaters Giovanni Giacometti auseinander. Dessen Einfluss auf die Malerei seines Sohnes ist in den Anfängen noch klar spürbar. Durch die intensive Werkbetrachtung der Bilder seines Vaters und durch die gestalterische Umsetzung von klassischen Themen, wie dem Motiv des Stilllebens, hat Alberto seinen eigenen Stil entwickelt. So fand er zu einzigartig verdichteten Bildkompositionen mit nahezu plastisch modellierten Gegenständen, zu Meisterwerken des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts wie dem vorliegenden Stillleben mit Kartoffeln in einer Schale.
