Condition

The sheet is undulating slightly and is worn in the lower right corner. The sheet is covered in a layer of dirt. There are two brown spots of dirt two centimetres above the building in the right corner. Held in a brown wooden frame behind glass. Unexamined out of frame.

In May 1907 Bakst travelled to Greece with Valentin Serov, a journey which 'had the profoundest effect on Bakst: it radically affected his palette and inspired his decorative imagination' (Alexander Schouvaloff, Dansmuseet catalogue, 1993).
