Condition
Structural condition: the artist's canvas is unlined on a keyed wooden stretcher and the turnover and tacking edges have been strengthened with a thin linen strip-lining. This is providing an even and stable structural support. There is a small canvas patch securing a repaired tear in the lower left as viewed from the reverse. Paint surface: the paint surface has an even varnish layer. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows a horizontal area of retouching in the lower right of the composition corresponding to the repaired tear mentioned above, and some small spots and lines of retouching within the blue background on the left and right of the composition. There are other very small retouchings. Summary: the painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition and no further work is required.
