Condition
The canvas has not been lined. As just visible in the catalogue illustration, there are some areas of craquelure notably in the figures' faces and the lower parts of their clothing, and there is a small dent with associated tiny spots of paint flaking in the lower part of the man's right leg. Ultraviolet light reveals a few scattered small spots of retouching notably to two small repaired punctures in the tree trunk to the right.
Presented in a simple gilt frame.

Marie Ludovika Wilhelmine, Princess of Bavaria (1808-92) was the sixth child of King Maximilian I of Bavaria and his second wife, Caroline, Princess of Baden. She married Maximilian Joseph, Duke in Bavaria, (1808-88) in 1828 at Tegernsee.
