Description

  • porcelain
  • (vases) h. 44cm
each variously painted with bands of precious objects, shaped cartouches enclosing birds and flowers, butterflies and meandering lotus scrolls, mounted as lamps

Provenance

Bought in the 1980s from Mallets, London (by repute).

Condition

Both vases are mounted as lamps so the interior and base are not inspected. The vases are in general very good condition with the exception of minor scratches, surface wear and firing flaws. The gilding is slightly rubbed. There are traces of yellowed dirt below the rim of one vase, and brown flecks on the turquoise keyfret band at the rim of the other vase. The brown flecks probably occurred during the firing.
