Catalogue Note
These pieces come from the exceptionally large 'Neuozier' service commissioned for Emperor Wilhelm II at the turn of the 20th century, intended to be spread throughout the Royal Palaces. It takes inspiration from a service commissioned by Frederick the Great in 1781-83 which was decorated in the same palette of iron-red and gilt borders. The monogram of King Frederick picked out in gilt on the body of the Prussian Eagle emblem. The name Neuozier was given to the form of moulding used to highlight the body of the service, a re-working of the ‘old’ Altozier forms. Part of the service was exhibited at the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin and is illustrated in the catalogue Der Letzte Kaiser Wilhelm II. Im Exil (1991) p.173, no.23.
