Condition
The catalogue reproductions of these four small panels are very representative in colour tone, but do not convey the detail.
The wood panels are in excellent condition, flat, stable, uncradled, and with no signs of movement in the wood.
To the naked eye the paint surface is in a very good state, with no loss of paint or flaking. Only in the scene showing travellers with the ruined house on the cliff above (shown lower right hand corner in the catalogue) there are four small spots of repair in the dark leaves of the tree, and a small discoloured repair to the left and above the tree.
The scenes in all panels are beautifully- executed and preserved, and can be appreciated in minute detail: for example the lines of the fishermen, the elegant form of the boats floating on the river, the luggage carried by the donkey, and the clothing of the travelling figures.
Inspection under Ultraviolet light shows the same few small cosmetic retouchings in the aforementioned panel. There are also two patches of repainting in the sky in the scene with the lake (shown upper left in the catatalogue).
Overall this charming group of works is largely untouched and in exquisite condition. The four panels are sold each in matching guilt and molded decorative frames, and are ready for display.
