This lot appears slightly darker than catalogue reproduction suggests. The canvas has an old relining, and is protected by a card backing attached to the stretcher. There are two cases of minor frame rubbing in the upper and left edges. The paint layer is in stable condition, with no loss of paint or flaking. There is a thin craquelure beginning to form. Also, some thinning in the brown pigments, especially in the lower part of the canvas. But the colours of the brighter blooms are still strong. Inspection under UV light shows two campaigns of restoration. The older consists of minor retouchings in the lower right area of the canvas. More recent are scattered flecks of cosmetic repairs throughout the flowers and in the upper left area of the canvas. This lot is sold in a moulded decorative frame with odl red and gold paint, now partially faded. The frame has a few cracks.
