When viewed in real, the white areas are slightly less bright than the catalogue image suggests. The canvas has been recently relined and has a fabric backing. The paint surface is in very good condition with no flaking or loss of paint. There is some light impasto preserved, and many colours are still wonderfully bright against the brown background background. Inspection under Ultraviolet light shows repairs of craquelure on the left side and on the darker flowers on the left. Also to the thin craquelure on the vase on the ledge around the base of the vase. All well- repaired and not distracting to the naked eye. There is an area of overpainted worn paint around the white small flower upper left. A small patch of restoration on the lower edge left just inside the frame. Otehrwise there are only tiny areas of cosmetic repainting of some of the other blooms. The work is in good condition overall with the elegant lines of the flowers and the bright pigments well- preserved and enjoyable. This lot is sold in a moulded gilt frame with a few knocks on the upper right corner but structurally sound. It is ready for display.
