  • biscuit porcelain and plaster
  • bust of young man: 22.5cm., 8.8in. high
  • German, 19th century
comprising a Berlin biscuit porcelain bust of a child, probably the future King Ludwig the I of Bavaria (1786-1868), the base with underglaze blue sceptre mark, with a label to the reverse inscribed: Biederstein, and a biscuit porcelain bust of a young man, probably Grand Duke Charles I of Baden (1786-1818), together with a porcelain bust of Emperor Alexander I (1777-1825) on a socle base

Condition

The bust of a young man, probably Grand Duke Charles I of Baden is lacking its socle base, there is a coarse area to the underside of the bust where the joint would have occurred. The porcelain bust of Emperor Alexander has fine body cracks to the face. The plaster example of the same bust has a flat chip to the left shoulder.
