Description

  • oil on canvas
  • 68.5 by 55.5cm., 27 by 22in.

Condition

The canvas has not been lined. There is a bloom of spotting related to fungus visible overall, a faint fine pattern of craquelure, and some yellowing to the varnish. There is a faint, small scuff with associated paint flaking in the figure's left eyebrow, in the red material of his sash near his right shoulder, and a small dent in the background in the upper right. Ultraviolet light reveals scattered small spots of retouching primarily in the background, and the old varnish fluoresces opaquely. Presented in a gilt Empire-style frame.
