Description
- Andreas Möller
- Portrait of King Friedrich I of Prussia (1657-1713)
- Inscribed on the stretcher bar, presumably a transcription from the canvas before relining: A. Möller pinx. Berlin 1715.
- oil on canvas, framed as an oval
Provenance
Hanoverian Royal Collections, Schloss Blankenburg, by 1911 (according to an inventory stamp on the reverse).
Condition
The canvas has a hard relining. The paint surface is nice and flat, the pigments stable. There is some beginning craqueleure espeically in the centre of the composition. The different textures of his robes are beautifully represented and preserve their freshness. The work is protected by an even varnish.
Inspection under Ultraviolet light reveals some minor dot retouchings throughout the lower part of the sitter's face, in the backgronud. Furthermore, there are two small patches of restoration, upper and lower edges right by the frame.
This lot is sold in a simple frame, painted gold, and in very godo condition.
