Catalogue Note
First edition of Morrison's second book of poetry, inscribed by the author: "To Norman w/ Thanks. J Morrison." This is possibly Norman Mailer, of whom Morrison was a longtime fan, and for whom he raised money during Mailer's run for mayor of New York in the same year.
Self-published by Morrison in the Spring of 1969 with only 100 copies printed, the poems cover typical Morrison subject matter; death, sex, love, madness, ruination, film, dogs, etc. This one about himself; Snake-skin jacket/Indian eyes/Brillant hair/He moves in disturbed/Nile Insect/Air; this one about Los Angeles; Cancer city/Urban fall/Summer sadness/The highways of the old town/Ghosts in cars/Electric shadows. Many others from this collection that he dedicated To Pamela (Courson, his longtime girlfriend/common law wife) still seem relevant and topical today.
