Catalogue Note
"nobody has known the true story behind it and I happened to find out the story from some people down in florida...' A popular live staple for Presley, "Softly as I Leave You" featured backing vocalist and Gospel perfomer Sherrill Nielson on lead vocals while Presley recited the heartbreaking "true" origin of the song before singing with him in unison. In the present draft, Presley has noted where Sherrill comes in as well as writing out his own spoken parts.
