Catalogue Note

One of Rembrandt's most original etched landscapes, the present work blends an ordinary Dutch boat, known as a 'schuytje' - which was used to transport people and produce - with an imaginary rock formation in the landscape. The scene is completely unpopulated, which is a rarity among Rembrandt's landscapes.
