Description

  • Edward Weston
  • TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted, signed and dated in pencil on the mount, the photographer's negative number 'LA40-20C-1' in pencil on the reverse, 1940 (Conger 1516)

Condition

This photograph, on semi-glossy paper mounted to thin cream-colored board, is in generally very good condition. The print is slightly warmer in tonality along the lower and right edges. In raking light, the following are visible: uneven silvering at the print's periphery; small deposits of original retouching; and a few tiny raised areas, likely particles trapped between the print and board during mounting. The front and reverse of the mount are somewhat soiled from handling, and there are occasional stray graphite deposits.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
