Description

  • Diane Arbus
  • TRANSVESTITE ON A COUCH, NYC
  • Gelatin silver print
signed and inscribed with the Arbus Estate authentication number by the photographer's daughter, Doon Arbus, in ink and stamped on the reverse, 1966 (Revelations, pp. 250-51)

Condition

This print, made by Arbus during her lifetime, is in generally excellent condition. When examined closely in high raking light, the following are visible: a few tiny matte deposits, possibly retouching; and 2 small, soft impressions to the right of the sitter. The margins are lightly rippled, there is a small transparent matte deposit in the lower margin, and a crease that breaks the emulsion in the lower left margin corner. The reverse of the print is inscribed with the Arbus Estate authentication number: '#4505-8-3U-1114.' The copyright stamp is dated '66' in ink.
