Catalogue Note

Henri-Daniel Robineau became master in 1754 in Paris, sponsored by Charles-Etiene Meyboom, from Pont Notre-Dame. At the sign of Les Trois Boîtes and then La Médaille d'or, he seemed to have mainly produced gold objects and boxes. In 1769, he created a box that could open in 10 different ways. It was presented to the King and the Court where it was much admired.
An almost identical rock crystal goblet with lid, Paris, 1726-1732, from Marie Antoinette's collection, now in the Musée du Louvre, is illustrated by Daniel Alcouffe (Les Gemmes de la Couronne, 2001, p. 545).
