rectangular, the lid chased with Venus and Adonis, within scrolls, the sides chased with scrolls, flowers and shells, plain base, reeded borders and scroll thumbpiece, opening to reveal a lidded compartment and its spoon, maker's mark and lion passant on cover, fully hallmarked on base, lion passant on rim

the lid rim very slightly bent on one side, otherwise very good condition.

Catalogue Note

Paul Bocquet insculpa son poinçon comme orfèvre de menus ouvrages en juillet 1762, sis au 15 Great Kirby Street, puis travailla avec son frère Robert entre 1772 et 1774, au 12 Gloucester Street, Bloomsbury (A.G. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, London, 1976, p. 443). Orfèvre huguenot, Paul Bocquet sera le sujet d'un article très à paéraitre prochainement.

Paul Bocquet first entered his mark as a smallworker in July 1762 from 15 Great Kirby Street and is later recorded by Heal with his brother Robert as goldworkers between 1772 and 1774 at 12 Gloucester Street, Bloomsbury (A.G. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, London, 1976, p. 443). As a member of the European Huguenot network, he is to be the subject of an article to be published in the near future.
