Description

  • bronze
  • Attributed to the Workshop of Severo Calzetta da Ravenna (active 1496-1543) Italian, Padua, first half 16th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good with some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are a few minor nicks and scratches to the surface. There are separate lids to the inkwell and oil lamp. The oil lamp (globe) is detachable and currently joined with a wood peg. An element is lost from the wick. The figure and the ink well were remounted on the base with solder. There are remnants of solder to the underside of the globe and the hands of Atlas. A hole in the centre of the base was filled with wax. The proper right ankle and the proper left foot have repaired breaks. There is a semi-circular scratch to the base at the proper left foot.
